Journey
Born Wanjiku Kimani in 1994, Femi One is a trailblazing Kenyan rapper and songwriter who has redefined the East African hip-hop landscape. Raised in the Mwiki neighborhood of Kasarani, Nairobi, she developed a passion for rap during her school years at Gakarara Secondary School. Her breakthrough came in 2013 when she was featured in the star-studded remix of "Ligi Soo" by King Kaka. Her sharp flow and distinct delivery in Sheng immediately set her apart, leading her to sign with the Kaka Empire record label, where she spent years honing her craft with tracks like "Pilau Njeri" and "Tippy Toe."
In 2020, her career reached a new stratosphere with the viral hit "Utawezana," featuring Mejja. The song became a massive cultural phenomenon, amassing millions of views and sparking dance challenges across the continent. Following this success, she released her highly anticipated debut album, "Greatness," in May 2021, and followed up with her second studio album, "Dem Kutoka Mwiki," in 2023. Beyond music, she made history in 2021 as the first African female brand ambassador for Monster Energy Drink.
Her dominance was cemented internationally when she won the Best Female Rapper in Africa award at the 2022 AFRIMMA Awards. Known for her versatility and bold attitude, Femi One continues to use her platform to mentor young artists and advocate for women’s empowerment through her lyrics and her One for One Foundation. Today, she stands as a global icon for Kenyan music, demonstrating that female rappers can dominate both the airwaves and the charts.
